Dwight Dwain Asbell, age 90, of Newark, Delaware passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. Born in Harrisburg, Illinois on June 25, 1934, he was the son of the late Dwight and Georgia (Disney) Asbell.
A veteran of the United States Army, Dwight served in the post Korean War era. He was employed as a Communications Specialist with Conrail and retired after 31 years of dedicated service. He was a longtime member of Greenbank Church of Christ, where he also served as a deacon for several years.
Dwight is survived by his wife of 70 years, Betty (Willis) Asbell; his children, Michael Asbell and wife, Beth; Lisa Connor and husband, Larry; his grandchildren, Hannah Tait and husband, Andrew; Joshua Asbell and wife, Heather; his great grandson, Luke Asbell; and his brother, Richard Asbell.
Dwight was preceded in death by his brother, G. Fred Asbell and his sister, Judy Thacker.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Tuesday, June 24 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will begin at 11:00AM, followed by interment at Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery, 525 Polly Drummond Hill Road, Newark.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in memory of Dwight to the Food Bank of Delaware, 222 Lake Drive, Newark, Delaware 19702.
