Dwight G. Cox, 79, of Stuttgart passed away Thursday, September 18, 2025, at Baptist Health-Stuttgart.

Dwight was born May 9, 1946, in Stuttgart to George and Mary Lou (Burris) Cox who preceded him in death. The 1964 Stuttgart High School graduate was an automobile mechanic and member of Harmony Missionary Baptist Church. He won the 1974 Super Stock Eliminator Division at the U.S. National Race in Indianapolis, Ind., and was the 1977 NHRA Division 4 Winston Points Race Champion. He was inducted into the Arkansas Motor Sports Hall of Fame and the NHRA Division 4 Hall of Fame. He also held numerous national records in various classes in super stock eliminator.

Survivors are his children, Dax Cox of Hazen and Leigh Turner and husband Britt of Hot Springs; the mother of his children, Gail Cox of Hazen; brother, Glenn “Sonny” Cox of Stuttgart; and two grandchildren Jaycie Turner of Little Rock and Jake Turner of Hot Springs.

Visitation will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22, at Turpin Funeral Home with funeral services to follow at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Hazen Cemetery.

The family requests memorials be made to Harmony Baptist Church, 910 E. 19th St., Stuttgart, Ark. 72160.
