In Loving Memory of Dwight Leroy Goodwin

March 21, 1932 – August 1, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dwight Goodwin. He left us peacefully on August 1, 2023. He was born on March 21, 1932 and lived a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Dwight was a remarkable individual who touched the lives of those around him. He will be remembered for the many hats he wore throughout his life. Soldier, Engineer, Man of faith, Grill master, neighborhood watch captain, motorcycle club member. He was employed by Raytheon in 1955 and committed 25 years as a Weapons Engineer and dedicated his talents to many notable projects over the years to include the Hawk missile program. Prior to his career at Raytheon, he was drafted into the Army at age 19 from 1952-54 at Fort Bliss, TX. Beyond his professional life, Dwight was a beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great grandfather and friend to many. He brought joy and warmth to every gathering, with his interesting stories, well researched advice, and words of wisdom. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege to know him. During his life, Dwight enjoyed motorcycle riding with his beloved ROMEOS (retired old men eating out). He found joy in the open road, every now and then one of his children or grandkids was welcome to join the posse for breakfast.  He took an interest and became the Pitt crew boss for his son Jeffs motorcycle racing, placing first and creating another memory that is sure to be held near and dear to his heart. One of his favorite pastimes was the many gatherings of loved ones in the home where he would grill and smoke his famous steaks or ribs. Recipes that were studied and perfected over years that are still enjoyed today and forever.  He shared many memories that were special to each person, motorcycle riding through the Grand Canyon, Family Day cruise on the USS Ronald Reagan, cooking for his family, friends and loved ones are just some. Though Dwight may no longer be with us physically, his memory will live on in our hearts. We find solace in knowing that he is at peace and in a better place.  His legacy will forever be etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.  His unwavering spirit and genuine concern for others will continue to inspire us all.  May he rest in eternal peace, knowing that his life was a shining example of love, service, and compassion. Dwight is survived by his wife of 71 years Patty Goodwin, his five children Susan Goetz, Danny Goodwin, Jeff Goodwin, Christine Spier, and Patsy Goodwin.  Many grandchildren and great grandchildren. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Dwight will be held on Monday, August 21, 2023, at 9:00 AM at Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass Drive. We invite all who knew him to join us in honoring his memory and sharing stories of his remarkable life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Global Hospice of El Paso. We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Dwight during this challenging time. May his soul rest in eternal peace. "Those we love don't go away; they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near; still loved, still missed, and very dear." Alex MacLean Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast - www.sunsetfuneralhomes.net.
