Autryville
Stephen "Dwight" Spell
Dwight Spell, 72 of Autryville, North Carolina entered into his Heavenly home in the presence of his family at his home on April 25, 2023.
Dwight was the first of three sons born to Mr. Odell Spell and Mrs. Agnes B. Spell on April 30, 1950. He met his lifelong sweetheart, Marilyn Hall Spell at Clement High School and married her in 1968. They shared a love that most only dream of. From that love came their two daughters, sons-in-law and three grandchildren. Those three grandchildren, Zoie, Nate and Mackenzie were truly the apple of Dwight's eye.
He loved life and people. Above all, Dwight loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ which radiated through all aspects of his life. He spent the greater part of his life spreading the love of Jesus through his ministry of music. Singing southern gospel with The Marksmen Quartet for 30+ years was truly one of the highlights of his life. His career as a National Sales Manager for Dynaflux, Inc. of 30+ years also allowed him to touch the lives of countless others nationwide.
If he wasn't singing, sharing time with family or working, you could almost certainly find him on the golf course where he gained several dear and lifelong friends. He truly considered his "golf buddies" to be family. His bright smile and sweet spirit often concealed the physical pain that he endured daily. Never complaining when most would have given up, he dealt with the pain with grace. Dwight truly exemplified the definitions of grace and humility.
Dwight is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marilyn, daughters Kandi Spell Small (Tommy Small), Gina Spell Robinson and three grandchildren including, Zoie Warren, Nate Small and Mackenzie Small. He is also survived by his younger brother Michael Spell and wife Barbara, sister-in-law Becky Spell, sister-in-law Gail Hall (the late Irvin Hall), brother-in-law Cecil Hall (Ernestine) as well as several nieces and nephews.
Also left to cherish his memory is his "honorary" son Jeffrey Spell (Kim), who Dwight loved just as his own. Dwight was predeceased by his mother and father along with his younger brother, Timothy "Tim" Spell and son-in-law, Jim Robinson.
Dwight's life will be celebrated at Mintz Baptist Church in Roseboro with a visitation on Friday, April 28, 2023 from 6:00pm-8:00pm and funeral service on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, you may honor Dwight by donating to Tim's Gift.
The family is very thankful to all who have loved, supported and prayed for Dwight during his extended illness and passing. They would also like to thank the staff of 3HC for their support and kindness during his final days.
Services entrusted to Butler Funeral Home, 401 W Roseboro Street, Roseboro, NC 28382.
