E. Jane Allen passed away on November 8, 2025 in Muncie, IN (the E. stood for Ethel, which she always hated!).
Jane was born on August 30th, 1938 in Moore's Creek, KY to Morton and Ruby (Ingram) Smith and moved to Indiana as a child. She graduated from Brookville High School in 1957 and the Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing, Cincinnati, OH in 1960.
Her career as a registered nurse spanned 38 years. Jane worked in a variety of settings, including Reid and Fayette Memorial hospitals (E.R., orthopedics and psychiatrics) and various nursing homes. She was as on-site industrial nurse at Natco in Richmond and the Roots Blower Co. in Connersville for several years. She also taught R.N. refresher courses.
Jane married Orville Allen on July 16th, 1959. They raised their two sons in Richmond, IN. Approaching retirement, they returned to Brookville. Following the death of her husband in 2002, Jane moved several times. First back to Richmond, then on to Noblesville, Indianapolis, Zionsville, Winchester and finally back to Brookville. Jane was highly adaptable and made friends wherever she called home. In 2021 she moved to Muncie to be closer to family as her health declined.
Jane is survived by her sons, Deron (Terri) Allen of Indianapolis, IN, Daniel (Kimberlee) Allen of Muncie, IN, Grandchildren Derek Allen, Indianapolis, Elizabeth (Jonathan) Norris, Patrick Allen, Jacob Allen, and great-grandson Joshua Norris, with another great-grandchild on the way, all of Muncie.
A niece, Ginny (Bo) Campbell, nephew Chad (Denise) Smith of Brookville. Nephew Bob (Paula) Curry, Evansville, IN. Several great-nephews and their families, as well as many treasured friends, both old and new.
In addition to her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her husband Orville Allen, brother Roy Smith, sisters-in-law Phyllis Smith and Nelva June Curry. Brother-in-law Max Curry and nephew Chuck Curry.
Family & friends may visit from 9:30 until 10:30 A.M., Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, 1025 Franklin Avenue, Brookville, Indiana.
Rev. Vincent P. Lampert will officiate the Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, November 13, 2025, 11:00 A.M., at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. Burial will then follow in St. Michael's Cemetery in Brookville.
