E. Barrall Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mathis Funeral Home - Medford on Nov. 26, 2022.
E. Robert "Bob" Barrall, 95, of Medford Lakes, formerly of Taunton Lakes, NJ, passed peacefully in his sleep on November 23.
Bob was born May 9, 1927 in the small Pennsylvania Dutch town of Tatamy, PA, where he lived until he joined the Navy at Age 17. After being stationed in Hawaii during WWII, Bob attended East Stroudsburg State Teachers College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in English and Social Studies. He and his wife Barbara moved to Lake Pine in 1956, purchasing one of the original log cabins, expanding and remodeling that to meet the needs of their growing family, and moved to Taunton Lakes in 1971 where they built their family home and lived there for almost 50 years.
Bob's first career was teaching high school history, yet it wasn't long before he found his true career path--as a senior sales representative for Pfizer Pharmaceutical Laboratories calling on doctors for 31 years.
Bob served as one of the first Lake Pine Beach Camp Directors, and served on the Medford Township Board of Education. He was also part of the group of local men who first envisioned the Medford youth sports program, now known as the Medford Youth Athletics Association, and he was instrumental in successfully advocating for a 2nd police officer for the growing Medford community. Bob was also an active member in the New Jersey Freemasons, Medford Lodge.
His son, Bobby, was his fishing and crabbing sidekick and his pride and joy. He doted on and delighted in his five daughters, Cynthia, Nancy, Laurie, Susan and Amy, and all their many achievements, including blessing him with 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Equally loved and honored were his sons-in-law.
Bob enjoyed many good times with his family in the Poconos. After retirement, Bob loved crabbing, finding treasures and antiques at garage sales, and reading--particularly enjoying James Michener and historical biographies. He also authored and published "A Boy From Tatamy" a collection of essays about his own life. But his greatest joy came from spending time with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Barbara (nee Knierim) Barrall; daughters Cynthia Barrall Sosnowski (John), Nancy Jo Barrall Robinson (Roy), Laurie Barrall Launer (Kim), Susan Ann Barrall, and Amy Barrall Wiker (Tom), grandchildren William Spencer, Abigail Mundell, Eric and David Moran, Allison Moran Clauges, Cole and Cooper Coffroth, Marc Bouclier, Julia Bouclier Ray, Tom and Chloe Wiker, and great grandchildren, Sebastian Crafts, Kayleigh, Ryan, Emma, and Chase Clauges, Ella Moran, Mila Bouclier, and Valerie Tatalias, his wife Barbara's sister.
In true Barrall fashion, the family of more than 40 gathered in the summer of 2021 for an epic celebration of Bob and Barbara's 70th wedding anniversary. We now gather again to celebrate the life of Bob Barrall.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at 11AM, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 1 Hartford Road, Medford, NJ. Reception following service at Medford Lakes Country Club.
