Aivars Delle Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bradley & Stow Funeral Home on Feb. 7, 2026.
Aivars U. Delle, age 87 years, of Southampton, NJ passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 4, 2026. Aivars was born to Emilija (nee Kozlovskis) and Eriks Delle in Liepaja, Latvia.

Aivars's early childhood was spent enduring the dangers of WW2 in Europe followed by living in war-torn Germany in displaced person camps. He was in 6th grade when able to make it to the US and settle in NJ with his parents and many other Latvians. He grew up in the Belmar/Asbury Park area, graduating from Asbury Park HS. Having good carpentry and building skills he, with his father, spent much time building the facilities at the Latvian Club in Freehold, NJ where he participated in sports and folk dance groups. He spent much time as an active member of the Latvian community, where he met Maruta, and was married in 1962. Aivars's higher educational journey started in pursuit of a degree in architecture at Monmouth College, then Temple and finally at the Newark College of Engineering (now NJIT). He was swayed to earn a B.S in Civil Engineering degree, due to the intense need for engineers for a rapidly expanding infrastructure system in the US. Much of his schooling was done at night while working at a small engineering firm as a draftsman. His professional career took a fortunate turn when the small firm loaned him to Parsons Brinkerhoff (PB, now WSP). He ultimately spent 30 years there achieving the rank of Division President, all the way building up PB as the dominant engineering consulting firm in the NY/NJ Area. He was a licensed professional engineer in numerous states, served as President of the NJPE Society and contributed mightily as a civil engineering industry advocate through the Alliance for Action. His career took a few more turns working with a few other firms later in his career, finally retiring from professional service at the age of 75. He was widely respected in professional circles for his passion for the engineering business, industry advocacy and mentorship. In retirement, his focus was his family, but regularly spent many hours talking about the happenings in the civil industry with his son, also a civil engineer. He was a very proud grandparent to 5 amazing grandchildren, which he had a keen interest in and always wanted updates as to what they were doing.

Aivars is the beloved husband of the late Maruta (nee Kubulnieks), loving father of Daina Walters married to Brian, and Andrejs Delle married to Maribeth, doting grandfather of Kristofer married to Rebecca, Erik, Patrick, Emily, and Lauren, and survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing in the Bradley & Stow Funeral Home, 127 Medford- Mt. Holly Road, Medford, NJ 08055 on Saturday, February 14, 2026 from 1 PM - 3 PM.
