"I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year." ~Ebeneezer Scrooge
E. Diane Streibich loved Christmas, Scrooge, John Wayne, Jesus, learning, writing, sewing, cooking, entertaining, teaching, and Hicks Hollow Road. More than anything, though, Diane loved her family. Born in
Flanagan, Illinois, on November 10, 1939 to Roger and Bernice (Milburn) Meils, Diane was the younger sister to Bruce, younger cousin to Ann, and older sister to Priscilla. From having daily lunch with her grandpa at the noon whistle to playing clarinet in the marching band, the joys and values of a small town were woven into the fabric of Diane's life.
Diane attended Eureka College where she met her future husband, Bob Streibich. Together, they graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University where Diane studied Education and English. The newlyweds moved to Peoria and Diane taught middle school in the Peoria Public School District until they started their family. She stayed home with their two kids, Rob and Julie. Diane was the best mom, loving unconditionally and showing her kids, daily, that there is nothing that they cannot handle without God, each other, and a good sense of humor. If lunch could be added in, that was a huge bonus. Diane once said, "I am nothing if not about lunch." Once the birds flew the nest, Diane returned to teaching while earning a Master of Science from Illinois State University. Diane thoroughly enjoyed sharing her love of learning with her students, leaving them each with the most important lesson: they mattered.
While Diane loved being a wife to Bob, mom to Rob and Julie, mother-in-law to Scott and Ingrid, being a grandma was her favorite. Diane adored her grandkids, Cole, Cam (his wife, Ellee, and their son, Rygh), Carly, Casey, and Caroline.
While we will miss Diane dearly, we can't help but smile that she is reunited with her dad, mom, Priscilla, Ann and Pete, Bob's parents, Ruth and Bob, and her sister-in-law, Cheryl.
We want to extend our most heartfelt thanks and love to Compassus Hospice and to the staff and friends at Lutheran Hillside Village where Diane passed peacefully and gently on Saturday, December 20. We will not forget your kindness.
Cremation rites will be accorded and a memorial visitation will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026 from 1pm to 3pm at the Waters of Life Chapel at Lutheran Hillside Village. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 11am at Chillicothe Bible Church with visitation beginning at 10am.
