E. Michael “Mike” Sturgill, 63, of Knightstown, Indiana, passed away on November 28, 2024, at Rush Memorial Hospital. Born on April 4, 1961 in Benham, KY, he was the son of the late Oscar and Ollie Mae (Bruner) Sturgill.
Mike was a devoted family man who held his loved ones above all else. He especially cherished his role as “Papaw” to his grandchildren. Known as a man of few words but a heart full of love, Mike was immensely proud of his daughters and the family he built.
Since a young man, Mike dedicated himself to the construction industry, excelling in drywall work. Mike was a graduate of Greenfield Central High School in 1979. In his leisure time, he enjoyed camping, fishing and watching Gunsmoke and The Andy Griffith Show.
Mike is survived by his children: Sonya (Eric) Whiteside, Jocelyn (Brett) Morris, Ariel (Matthew) Sturgill-Helm; grandchildren, Mazie, Eli, Emmett, and Easton; siblings, Glenn (Sue) Sturgill, Terry (Eva) Sturgill, Oscar “Bub” (Jennifer) Sturgill, Clarence (Cindy) Sturgill, Judy McGinnis Sturgill; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Leah Sturgill; brother, Thomas Sturgill, and his sister, Patricia Neal Sturgill.
Services will be held at 11:00am Thursday, December 5, 2024 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in Knightstown. Burial will follow in Greenfield Park Cemetery in Greenfield. Visitation will be from 4:00pm to 8:00pm Wednesday at the funeral home. You may express condolences or share memories of Mike at www.hinsey-brown.com.
