Earl Joseph Capozzi, Sr.
Loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather
Earl Joseph Capozzi Sr., 87, of Wolcott, formerly a longtime resident of Wilson Street in Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Lucille (Lucian) Capozzi of over fifty-nine years.
Born in Waterbury, on December 21, 1938, Earl was the son of the late Ardelio and Catherine (Massarelli) Capozzi. He was a graduate of Kaynor Technical High School, Class of 1958. Earl proudly served his country in the United States Army, enlisting in 1959 and receiving an honorable discharge in 1961. He worked and dedicated 36 years of service to the City of Waterbury, where he retired as Acting City Planner in 2000. Earl took great pride in his career and in serving the community where he was born and raised.
In his leisure time, Earl was an avid golfer, enjoying many rounds at Western Hills Golf Course in Waterbury. He also had a deep love for cooking and baking and was well known for his homemade apple pies, pizza, bread, relish, and pastaciotta-meals that brought family together and created lasting memories.
In addition to his wife Lucille, Earl is survived by his children, Earl Joseph Capozzi, Jr. and his wife Lori of Friendswood, TX, Eric J. Capozzi of Watertown, Kim Capozzi Dionne and her husband Robert Dionne II of Cheshire, and Dean Capozzi and his wife Lori of Wolcott. He also leaves his brother, Dr. Donald Capozzi and his wife Peggy of Woodbury, a sister-in-law, Lorraine Lucian of Waterbury, a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren, Kailey Ryan and her husband Kevin of Stamford, Miranda Capozzi and her fiancé, Kaleija Innis of Houston, TX, Selina Romano and her husband Patrick of Waterbury, Joseph Capozzi of Friendswood, TX, Gianna Capozzi of Wolcott, Juliana Capozzi of Friendswood, TX, Domenic Capozzi of Wolcott and Derek Dionne of Cheshire. He was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Jameson Ryan of Stamford, and Sophia Romano of Waterbury and several nieces and nephews. Earl was predeceased by his brothers, Dr. Richard Capozzi Sr., Raymond Capozzi, and Ardelio R. Capozzi Jr. and a granddaughter, Melissa Capozzi.
Earl will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his dedication to public service, and the warmth he shared through food, tradition, and time spent with those he loved.
Arrangements: A funeral will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026, 8:45 a.m. from Chase Parkway Memorial, the Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Waterbury for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial of cremains will be held privately and at the convenience of the family at the State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown. Calling hours for Earl will held Friday evening, January 9, 2026, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Earl's memory to:
