On the morning of Wednesday, August 13, 2025, the sun shone on Arlington National Cemetery, and those gathered there, the mourners, the Military Band, the Rifle Team, the Bugler, and the Chaplain, were there to pay tribute and say goodbye to LTC Earl Dunn, who died on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Earl Norman Dunn was born on July 30, 1936, in Barton, VT, to Lloyd and Dorothy Jenness Dunn. The majority of his school years were spent in Tupper Lake, NY, where he was an honor student and lettered in football, basketball, and baseball. He attended Clarkson College (now University) with Baseball and U.S. History scholarships. He played baseball and won the trophy for the highest batting average in his senior year. He joined Lambda Iota Fraternity and served as Vice President in his senior year. He continued his friendships with his fraternity brothers over the years. He was also in the ROTC and received a special award for excellence in 2008. He received a BSEE in 1958.

He spent one year working in Washington and Oregon on the Bonneville Power Dam before joining the Army. In the Army, he distinguished himself, earning many medals and awards, including the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service/Valor. He did two tours in Vietnam and worked on the Apollo Project, putting the first man on the moon. While in the military, he received an MBA from the University of Rochester. He retired from the Army with the rank of LTC (P).

After retirement from the army, he worked at Booz-Allen Hamilton for two years, then at the MITRE Corporation until his retirement in 2023. His work as a civilian was also acknowledged by numerous awards and recognition.

After many years together, he married Linda Fisher on January 1, 2001. Together, they traveled the world, visiting all 50 states and 54 countries on all seven continents. Their time together was magical but too short.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Fisher; sons, Michael, Arthur, and Charlton Dunn and their spouses; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, numerous nephews and nieces, and two Persian cats, Lovey and Thurston. He is preceded in death by his son, Patrick; brothers, Alden, Arnold, and Leo; brothers-in-law, Ben, Rick, and George Fisher; sisters-in-law, Claire and Betty Dunn, and Doris Fisher.

Although he lived to be almost 89 years old, he left too many places to visit, streams to fish, forests to hunt, computer programs to write, and lots of family and friends who will miss his devilish smile, his work ethic, and his dedication to those whom he loved.
