It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Earl "Gene" Hays, a beloved member of the Bonne Terre, MO community. He was born on Saturday, December 11, 1943 in St. Louis, to the late Earl and Laura Gertrude (Talley) Hays. Eugene passed away on Monday, October 21, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. His dedication to his faith was evident in his unwavering commitment to the First Baptist Church in Bonne Terre, where he served as a Sunday School teacher and usher.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Dorothy Eaton, Velma Jones-Doke, Clifford Hays, Claradine Hill, Donald Hays and Norman “Buck” Hays.
Earl is survived by his nieces; Bonnie Ratcliff, L. Diane Gray, Jeannie Currington, Janet Dennison, Torie Young and Tana Berg; nephews, Randall Jones, Bruce Jones, Clayte Jones, Wade Jones, Ray Hays and Wayne Hays. He will be dearly missed by many family members and friends.
Eugene's generous spirit extended beyond the church walls, as he found joy in volunteering his time at Helping Hands and sharing his love of music with the residents at St. Joe Manor and Southbrook. His caring heart touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 25, 2024, at C. Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home in Bonne Terre from 10:00 AM until Service time of 12:00 PM with Chaplain David Duncan officiating. Graveside service to follow at Bonne Terre Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Heart & Soul Hospice.
