EARL WILLIAM JONAS

June 16, 1935 – August 3, 2024

Bakersfield – Earl W. Jonas, 89, passed away on August 3, 2024, in Bakersfield, California. Born on June 16, 1935, Earl's charismatic nature meant he was someone who never knew a stranger. His warm, engaging personality made everyone feel like a lifelong friend.

Earl is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 67 years, Jerry, and their children, Peri Jonas and Brian Jonas (Jennifer his wife). He was a proud grandfather to Christopher Hardt (Alison his wife), Courtney Hardt, Andrew Jonas (Amy his wife), Brandon Jonas, Josh Martin, Jeff Martin, and Elijah Jonas, and a great-grandfather to Jaxon Hardt.

Earl was preceded in death by Edgar and Zula Jonas, his sister, Barbara Moreland, and his son, Blake Jonas.

An alumnus of Williams Elementary and East High School, Earl furthered his education at Bakersfield College. He honorably served in the United States Army, stationed in Alaska during the Korean conflict, contributing to his nation with diligence and pride.

Earl's professional journey began at Brock's Department Store in the shoe department, leveraging his outgoing personality in sales. His career spanned several years at Booth's Radio and Appliance, followed by a stint at Apex Lighting and Chemical Co. Eventually, he seized an opportunity to open his own business, The Mattress Barn, which he ran successfully for many years. In retirement, Earl's passion for golf led him to become a Marshall at the local golf course. His love for music, particularly jazz, and his enjoyment of traveling and good conversation, filled his days with joy.

A service to honor Earl's life will be held at the Bakersfield National Cemetery, 30338 East Bear Mountain Blvd., Arvin, CA. 93203.
