Earl Joseph “EJ” Oubre, Jr., age 73, passed away unexpectedly on June 28, 2025. Born on December 21, 1951, at Hotel Dieu Hospital in New Orleans to Earl Joseph Oubre, Sr. and Doris Tyndall Oubre, EJ lived a life marked by love, service, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends. EJ grew up in Des Allemands, where he spent his childhood riding bikes down Maloney Road and forging lifelong friendships. He was a proud Eagle Scout—an honor that reflected his enduring values of leadership, service, and integrity. A 1969 graduate of Hahnville High School, EJ went on to retire from Union Carbide after many years of dedicated service.
EJ is survived by his beloved wife, Susette “Suzy” Tuminello Oubre, who said goodbye to him on their 39th wedding anniversary. He was a devoted father to Bradley Oubre (Penny) and Kimberly Oubre Cheramie (Brett), and a cherished grandfather to Lauren and Ashley Cheramie (John), and Tyler and Kailey Oubre and great-grandfather to Cammie Oubre. He was looking forward to meeting his first great grandson Oliver Lewis in December. He is also survived by his siblings Lydia Fontana (Paul), Kurtz Oubre (Beth), and Cherie Webre (Dirk), and brother-in-law Thomas Tuminello (Jane), along with many loving nieces and nephews.
Known for his quiet strength and generous heart, EJ found joy in the simple pleasures of life—playing golf, capturing family moments as the designated photographer, and offering free tech support to friends and neighbors. Above all, his family—especially his girls—were the center of his world, and his love for them was evident in everything he did and said. His legacy of kindness, generosity, and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 610 Sixth Street, Gretna, LA on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at 11am. Visitation will be held at the church from 9am until 11am. Interment, Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, La. Family and friends may view and sign the online guest book at www.mothefunerals.com.
