Earl R. Zimmerman Obituary

Published by Dunn-Givnish Funeral Home, Inc. on Nov. 12, 2021.
Earl R. Zimmerman Jr. passed away peacefully Friday November 12, 2021 at Chandler Hall Hospice in Newtown, PA at the age of 90. Earl was born in Philadelphia, PA on August 19, 1931, moved to Langhorne in 1940, and remained there as a lifelong resident. Earl began attending a one-room schoolhouse and graduated from Langhorne High School in 1950. He was a proud Neshaminy Redskin. Earl was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church of Langhorne, where he taught Sunday School. Earl was very proud of his service to his country in the US Navy during the Korean War serving on the USS Corry. Earl was very mechanically inclined and worked as a tool and die maker at Babs Machine Shop, Heinemann Electric, and General Motors. Earl retired from General Motors in 1996 to tend his garden, work meticulously on his projects, and dote on his grandchildren, while teaching them life's lessons. He loved spending time with his family on the Barnegat Bay in New Jersey and kept busy fishing, crabbing, and boating. Earl was an associate member of the Langhorne Fire Company, member of the Lower Bucks Masonic Lodge, The Tin Can Sailors, American Legion, and VFW. Earl and Doris' marriage was an old-fashioned love story. They met during high school at a canteen. They were married at a young age right before Earl's deployment during the Korean War. They supported one another through 68 years of marriage. Earl's happiness always rested in his love of his family and home. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was a man of many talents and had the ability and skill set to fix anything. Perhaps his greatest attributes were his integrity, loyalty, and faith in God. His legacy and love remains with all who knew him. Earl was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Evelyn (Clapp), father, Earl R. Zimmerman Sr., and grandmother, Mamie Clapp. He is survived by his loving bride of 68 years Doris (Krauss) and his five children, Chuck (Helene) Zimmerman, Connie (Ed) Doyle, Amy (Kevin) Transue, Rob (Tiffannie) Zimmerman, and Mary Zimmerman. The family continued to grow with ten grandchildren, Brad (Allison) Transue, Katelyn Transue (Chris Chambers), Hannah Zimmerman, Zachary (Poorva) Zimmerman, Emily (Kevin) Bray, Ethan Transue, Rebecca Doyle (Corey Rantz), Ryan Doyle, Emma and Robbie Zimmerman. Earl's frequent advice: Take time to smell the roses. Family and friends are invited to Earl's Life Celebration, from 6-8pm, Tuesday, Nov 23rd , at Dunn/Givnish of Langhorne, 378 S. Bellevue Ave. and from 10-11am, Wednesday, Nov 24th at Langhorne United Methodist Church, 301 E. Maple Ave., Langhorne, PA 19047 and to participate in his Funeral Service at 11am. Interment will follow in Washington Crossing National Cemetery at 1pm with military honors. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made in Earl's name to: Jesse Soby Post #148 of the American Legion – 115 West Richardson Avenue, Langhorne, PA 19047 Disabled American Veterans Charitable Service Trust (dav.org)

I didn't know Earl but I know his daughter Amy. From what I have read of his obituary, Amy is her father through and through. What a wonderful legacy he has left this world.
