Earl Horsley Thomas, 72, of Franklin, NC, passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2025.
A native of Macon County, Earl was born to the late Porter Charles and Ethel Moffitt Thomas. He was a devoted husband and a proud “Dad” to Ava. Earl loved life and found joy in the outdoors—whether fishing, hunting, or working with his hands to fix anything anyone needed. Known for his generosity, he never hesitated to help those who asked.
Earl cherished time in his shop, where he built a wood fire in the heater and welcomed friends and family to sit, talk, and share stories. His giving spirit and love of fellowship touched everyone who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Jerry, Larry, and Ray Thomas; and sisters Rosalee Hodgins, Margaret McGaha, Betty Sue Talley, Shirley Myers, and Carol Thomas.
Earl is survived by his loving wife, Pat Thomas; daughter, Ava Klatt; stepson, Jamie Barlow; siblings Lonnie Thomas, Thelma Carpenter, and Katie Rowland (Mitchell); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 19th , from 1–2 p.m. at Macon Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the Chapel, with Reverend Phillip Cochran officiating. Burial will be in the Black Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery.
