I became connected with Gov and Jody via lifting weights. Gov was a dedicated weight lifter. He worked out as hard as anyone I have lifted with over the past fifty years. Gov had a great sense of humor. He always had me laughing in the gym. Gov will be missed. I am sorry that I will be unable to attend Gov´s upcoming services. I am currently dealing with a family emergency out in Denver, CO. My condolences to the Yearick family. Please gain strength knowing that Gov is still smiling in Heaven.

My dad bought me my first mini bike at the age of 10 in 1970. About three years and two different mini bikes later, I met Gov Yearick when he ran a shoe store in the shopping center next to my home on Westerly Parkway. He was larger than life and told me stories of racing motorcycles which completely fascinated me! Noticing this, he gave me a book called "How to Ride Motorcycles" which I still have to this day! He also encouraged me to make the jump from mini bike to motorcycle. I sold my latest mini bike and bought Gov's 250cc Kawasaki 2 stroke dirt bike (that's me with it in the photo circa 1974). I probably weighed 120 lbs at the time and that bike was set up for adult racing. So needless to say, it was like riding a rocket ship, and I proceeded to tear-up the the vacant lot behind the shopping center everyday! Also needless to say, I got to know the police by name but they were actually very nice to me - just telling me to "Keep it down a little". That would not be the case today.
Once I satisfied the speed demon within me (which is still much alive today), Gov could see and sense I was more about finesse and balance than I was about all-out dirt racing. He told me about a sport called trails. This was a slow, methodical, balanced and finessed "competition" rather than a speed race. The book he gave me even devoted several pages to it. With Gov's encouragement, I sold my rocket ship racer and bought a trials bike. In-between customers at the shoe store Gov helped me develop my trials skills on the rocks that were exposed by excavating for the shopping center. After I got pretty good he said I should compete which I did for many years - winning several trophies that I still display in my "Moto Shack".
Along with my beloved father, Gov helped set in motion my life long passion for motorcycles. Not counting days upon days of dirt and trials riding, I estimate I've logged close to 150,000 miles of riding on numerous makes and models of motorcycles - including of course, a Harley Sportster.
Thank You Dad and Gov for 55 years and counting of riding motorcycles and LOVING every minute and mile! Rest in Peace, Speed, Dirt, and the Sweet Sound of a Motorcycle Engine Gov. Thanks for The Memories!

So sorry to hear about this last ride my friend. Thanks for the many chats, taking care of my rides and our 40 + year friendship. You will be missed by so many. Your accomplishments are worthy of a book and movie.

To Gov´s friends and family, I had the privilege to sell Gov a vehicle or two when I worked for Blaise Alexander. He was tough, but fair. I enjoyed talking to him at length thru the process. I give him a lot of credit for what he built. RIP Gov.

Gov. was definitely one of a kind. I enjoyed stopping in, and many times we talked for hours.
I still have the last Harley I bought from him.
He will be missed.

As kids we spent a lot of time together mostly at the swimming hole on Spring Creek or at my home on Rock Rd. Gov and his brother Fred would show up to help my sister Ann an I get our chores done everyday so we could go to the creek. We all became close friends a friendship that lasted a lifetime. My condolences go out to Jody and to the family. Gov will be missed.
