Earnest H. "Pete" Root

Earnest Homer "Pete" Root 69-year-old Vinita resident, passed away on December 8, 2025, in Tulsa, OK. He was born on March 14, 1956, in Hamilton, OH to Vernon and Melvie (Clifford) Root. Pete was raised in Ohio before becoming a resident of the Big Cabin and Vinita area since 1978. He was a self-employed contractor building homes. Some of Pete's best moments were spent with his spouse Rebecca. Pete was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed mowing his property in his spare time.
Pete is preceded by his parents, brothers, Vernon Root, Jr. and Christopher Root.
Survivors include spouse, Becky Johnston; daughters, Carla Ryan, Jamie Root; sons, Jeff Johnston, Jacob Johnston, Zac Johnston, brothers, Don't Root, James Root, Jarred Root, sisters, Kathy Black, Crystal Pleasant, Jane Martin; grandchildren, Abby Stamper, Emma Stamper, William Ryan, Chase Ryan, Coban Johnston, Camden Turner, Ridge Johnston, Baylor Johnston, Kennedy and Jett Johnston.
Arrangements are in the care of the Burckhalter-Highsmith Funeral and Cremation Services of Vinita. "Vinita's only locally family owned and operated funeral home."
