John Root Obituary

CASTLETON- John Thomas Root, 76 of Castleton died Sunday morning November 30, 2025 at his residence following a long illness
He was born on May 19, 1949 in Rutland the son of Stanley A. and Helen (Lyman) Root.
John grew up in Castleton, graduating from the Fair Haven High School in 1967.
He married Andrea Russell on August 23, 1997.
John was employed by the Town of Fair Haven, operating the water treatment plant for 28 years until his retirement in 2011.
He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion in Fair Haven and the Fraternal Order of Eagles where he has served as the President.
John enjoyed golf and NASCAR.
Survivors include his wife Andrea of Castleton, 4 daughters Stephanie Donovan of Castleton, Elizabeth Pulsifer of Brandon, Jennifer Waite of Fair Haven, and Barbara Scribner of Poultney, 2 stepchildren Tina Whittamore of Castleton and Joseph Russell of Jeffersonville, 3 brothers Joseph Root of Hampton, NY, Peter Root of Castleton, and Steven Root of Poultney, 5 grandchildren several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and an infant brother Paul Root.
A celebration of his life will be held from 2pm until 4pm on Sunday December 7, 2025 at the Fair Haven American Legion.
Arrangements are with the Durfee Funeral Home.
