Castleton - Barbara Withrow Gustafson, 85, of Castleton died Saturday morning November 22, 2025. Barbara was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Barbara was born on May 14, 1940 in Milwaukee, WI, the daughter of Dr. Harold and Frances (Barnes) Withrow. Barbara grew up in Hustisford, WI, graduating from the Wayland Academy in 1958 then the University of Wisconsin with a bachelor's degree in science in 1963.
Barbara married Alan C. Gustafson on October 17, 1964, and had the great gift of reaching their 61st anniversary which they celebrated together with their family.
After graduating college, Barbara was employed by the Department of Defense, but her greatest life's work was being a mother to her three children and a Nana to her two grandchildren. Barbara enjoyed volunteering to those in need and especially enjoyed spending time with the elderly. Barbara was an active member of the Fellowship Bible Church and the Castleton Community Center.
Survivors include her husband, Alan, of Castleton, son Gregg Gustafson of Stamford, CT, daughter Jennifer Briganti of Stratford, CT, son David Gustafson of Castleton, two grandchildren Zachary and Mia, and two nephews, Steven and David Curtiss, and of course her beloved, loyal dog Sophie.
She was predeceased by her sister Diane Curtiss in 2023, her parents, and many loved ones who have gone before her. Anyone who knew Barbara saw that her greatest passion in life was following Jesus, studying His word, and truly living out her faith.
A memorial service will be held 11AM Saturday November 29, 2025 at the Fellowship Bible Church. Burial will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. A reception will follow.
