Ebe McCabe Obituary
He was a graduate of John M Clayton High School in Frankford, Delaware before graduating at the U.S. Naval Academy and a proud Veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he served on nuclear submarines and attained the rank of Captain. He also served as a Section Chief for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). During the Three Mile Island (TMI) nuclear accident of 1979, he supervised the NRC incident response center and responded on-site at TMI. His career as a public servant spanned more than 38 years. Captain McCabe, being well traveled and expressive, was the author of three books.
Additionally, he bred and showed cats for about 20 years and wrote articles for a magazine from the Cat Fanciers Association.
Son of the late Ebe Chandler, Sr., and Veronica Teresa (Coulis) McCabe, he was predeceased by his son, Michael, his brother, Harley William McCabe Happy and his Soul mate, Eliot Marshall. He is survived by his son, Keith C McCabe of Texas, his daughter, Gayna M Carmichael of Runcorn, England, his daughter, Lisa Palmer of West Chester, PA, his stepdaughter, Brooke Evans of Oregon, his grandchildren, great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and his sister, Phyllis Davis.
Captain McCabe was a wonderful and highly respected man, a blessing for his family, friends, and community, and he will be greatly missed.
Private services will be held in Bucks County, PA, in November.

It's been a few years now since Ebe's passing but my recollections of him have not diminished, a sign of the impressions he made on me. I regard it as one of my life's great privileges that Ebe and I crossed paths.
I wish I could find more Ebes in the world. Both I and the world would be better off.

I corresponded with Ebe (a distant cousin, aka 'Sonny') while he was researching his McCabe ancestry. Ebe was a very thorough researcher. He published a book "Celtic Warrior Descendants - A Genetic and Cultural History of a Rural American Family".

Ebe was a member of a "breakfast" group of five other retired men, all of them "mature" in years. Two of the others are retired Navy men and we meet nearly every week.
Ebe's contributions to the conversation were always intelligent, interesting and worthwhile. He was likable in the extreme, and given the nature of our conversations over the table, his recounting of life experiences were often beyond merely interesting.
We will miss his wit and wisdom. He is irreplaceable.

I knew Ebe at the NRC in the early 80's and worked for him several years. He was quite a character. He had a very inquisitive mind, and always had a lot of questions. At one facility I visited, the local inspectors had a file drawer labeled "Ebe." The drawer was full of questions Ebe had asked about reports and correspondence that he sent to the inspectors. They could not possibly answer all the questions he asked, so they got in the habit of filing his questions and only answering those he asked a second time! They figured that if he asked a second time he really wanted to know the answer.
