Ed Gardner, 89, of Kings Mountain, passed away at CaroMont Regional on Thursday, May 18, 2023. He was born February 5, 1934, in McDowell County, to the late Parley Lee Gardner and Margie Jamison Gardner.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ann Burnette Gardner.

Ed was a former member of Hankins Baptist Church in Marion, NC, and current member of First Baptist Church in Kings Mountain, NC.

He was always a determined and hardworking man with a strong work ethic.  Ed went to work straight out of school into the Lumber business, bulldozing and excavating, and then venturing into the commercial trucking business, moving on to forming a commercial trucking company known as Quality Exchange Inc.  For many years, Ed owned, operated, and grew his trucking company to be a successful business.  Ed has a reputation of being a strong man, but a very humble man with a heart of gold.  Ed helped many people along the course of his life out of pure love for the human soul.  Ed was a devout Christian man, and he constantly showed his love of Jesus Christ through his love for mankind.  His hands were soft, kind, and gentle, but have worked until they bled.  He sacrificed unselfishly for his family, and yet these hands were always praying hands.  He laid all of his faith in Jesus Christ, because he knew what Jesus Christ sacrificed for all of us.  His love, kindness, and belief in his holy father touched many lives, and will never be forgotten.

Survivors include his son, Tim Gardner (Jessica); daughter, Beth Paul (Mark); brothers, Cline Gardner (Betty), Charles Gardner (Faye); sisters, Mildred Anderson, Patty Wood (Mackey); grandchildren, Austin Gardner, Colby Gardner, Josh Paul (Abby), Andy Paul (Rachel), Brian Paul (Emily) Jason Paul; great grandchildren, Natalie Paul, Elijah Paul, Leah Paul, Jaxon Paul, Wyatt Paul. Ed's very special and very loved extended family: Doris Robbs, Eric and Leanne Sanders, Matthew and Jennifer Hunter, and grandkids Heath Hunter, Gracie Hunter, Logan Sanders and Scott Sanders.

His family will receive friends from 09:30 AM to 10:45 AM at First Baptist Church, Kings Mountain on Monday, May 22, 2023.

Ed's funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on May 22, 2023, with Brother Chip Sloan officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM Monday, May 22, 2023, at McDowell Memorial Park, Marion, NC with Pastor Danny White officiating.  The family will receive friends from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM prior to the graveside service.
