Eddie Elder Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Davis Funeral Home - Mattapan on Feb. 20, 2026.
Eddie Ted Elder was born on April 14, 1940, to the late Hezekiah and Alice Favors Elder in Newnan, Georgia. He received his education through the Newnan and Atlanta Public Schools and went on to build a respected career as a butcher and meat craftsman - a profession he mastered over more than 40 years. Alongside his wife, Linda Faye Elder, he also shared in several family ventures, including a baking business and a childcare center, both of which reflected their shared devotion to family and community.

Eddie accepted Christ at an early age, grounding his life in faith and service. He shared his gift of gospel music with others by singing in churches across the community and directing choirs with joy and passion.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Eddie found his deepest joy in family. He spent countless hours teaching and guiding his grandchildren, often sharing stories from his youth and the treasured memories of helping raise his siblings. He was a hard worker who took great pride in his home - whether maintaining a beautiful yard, tending to his garden, or simply enjoying time outdoors. Faith was ever-present in his life, and he found strength and peace in watching spiritual programs and sermons, especially those by Pastor Creflo Dollar.

Eddie was married for 65 wonderful years to the love of his life, the late Linda Faye Elder, who preceded him in death along with their two beloved sons, Anthony Elder and Larry Elder. He also joins two brothers and five sisters in rest.

He leaves behind to carry his memory two loving daughters, Wendy Elder and Wanda Elder Moffett (Anthony); nine cherished grandchildren; Keila Elder, Paulette Elder, Moniqua Shante Elder, Walia Moffett, Roman Peele, Melissa Jenkins (Wayne) Aminah Moffett, Antoinett Lang, Trinity Elder, five great-grandchildren; four sisters - Earlene Elder Williams (Frank), Zelma Elder-Hill, Rudene Elder Francis (Julius), and Linda Elder Dixon - a dear sister-in-law, Cynthia Parks Elder, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who were touched by his presence.

Eddie's life was nothing short of miraculous. Though he might not live past his teenage years, he graced this world for 85 remarkable years - years filled with love, laughter, resilience, and faith. His life was a testament to perseverance and the power of God's grace. Though our hearts ache with his passing, we find comfort in knowing that his legacy of love, strength, and kindness lives in all who knew him.
