Eddie Gene Mayes was born March 4, 1954 in Columbia South Carolina to the Belated mother Ora Belle Mayes and Belated father Eugene Slaughter. He moved to New York at the early age of 5. He attended public schools in Jamaica New York and later move to Wyandanch NY where he completed the 11 th grade.
At the age of 10 his father Eugene Slaughter taught him a trade installing carpet and with that he was able past this trade to his son Eddie Gene Mayes Jr and daughter
Lalisha Mayes Mingo.
Eddie Gene Mayes moved to Miami Florida in 1994 where he started running his own business, Mayes Enterprise where his son Jason Mayes help him run. He always kept
his self busy and was proud and loved everything he accomplished. He worked up until he was 68 when he then retired.
He loved going to church,he will sit in his car before starting and pray giving thanks to God before starting his day. One of his proud moments is when he helped rebuild
Mississippi from hurricane Katrina along with his grandson Derrick Mayes and daughter Lalisha Mayes. His favorite song artist was James. Brown.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories Oldest son Eddie Gene Mayes, Oldest daughter Cindy Sabrina Mayes, Middle child Latonia Mayes, youngest son Jason
Mayes, youngest daughter Lalisha Mayes and son in-law Courtney Mingo. Youngest sister Eartha Anderson, youngest brother Gene Anderson, 20 grandchildren,16 great-
grandchildren, and nieces and nephews and host of family and friends. Proceeded in death grandson Derrick Mayes, brother Robert Jr, sister Catherine Mayes, sister
Dorothy Mayes Robert, brother Eugene Slaughter, brother Herbert Lee Slaughter, sister Madell Rita Jennings, brother Cedric Anderson. Eddie Gene was the last child of Ora
