Mrs. Eddie Ruth Hammond Stanfield, 89, of Americus, passed away peacefully at her residence on January 22, 2025. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 27, 2025, at 10:00AM at Eastside Baptist Church, 100 Hwy 27, Americus with Rev. Damon Fountain, Rev. William Hall, Rev. Sims Jones, and Rev. Eddy Wood officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park, 359 SW Broad St, Fairburn, GA 30213, at 3:00PM. Pallbearers will be Jason Stanfield, Richard Stanfield, Jeff Bridges, Peyton Stanfield, Mark Bowron, and Luke Bowron. The family will greet friends at Way-Watson Funeral Home in Ellaville on Sunday, January 26 from 2:00 – 4:00PM.
Mrs. Stanfield was born November 9, 1935, to Edward Gordon and Mary Ruth Brock Hammond in Atlanta, GA. She was a longtime devoted member of Eastside Baptist Church in Americus where she sang in the choir and was the former Sunday school director. She had a love for reading the Bible, having read it completely over 18 times. Mrs. Stanfield drove the school bus in Schley and Sumter counties for over 36 years, as well as being a substitute teacher and para-pro. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Othell Stanfield, a brother, Thomas Keith Hammond, a son, Randall Stanfield and a grandson, Christopher Stanfield.
Survivors include her children, Kline Stanfield (Debra) of Americus, GA, Katherine Bridges (Oliver) of Warner Robins, GA, Wendell Stanfield (Deborah) of Rockmart, GA, Denver Stanfield (Tracey) of Milner, GA, David Stanfield of Ellaville, GA, and Donna Stanfield (Jim) of Wetumpka, AL; three sisters, Rita Singleton Collins Lee of East Point, GA, Brenda Shell (Joseph) of Palmetto, GA, and Martha Dubose of Franklin, GA; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Stanfield of Jackson, GA; 21 grandchildren, Amanda Barrett (Clay), Chelsey Breivogel (John), Peyton Stanfield, Jeff Bridges (Tina), Janet Bridges, Jason Stanfield, Ricky Stanfield (Kellyn), Lynn Custer (Brandon), Diana Mullis (Jared), David Stanfield, Jr. (Beth), Randy Stanfield, Jennifer Hubbard (Adam), Kaylah Williams (Marcus), Donna Bromley (Thomas), Zoey Stanfield, Aaron Stanfield, Mark Bowron, Mary Catherine Redden (Seth), Skyler Millis (Aaron), Luke Bowron, and Patti Bowen; great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Flowers will be accepted or the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Eastside Baptist Church, 100 Hwy 27, Americus, GA 31709 or to the charity of your choice.
