Eddie Lou Whiting (nee Tippit,) 94 years young of Southampton, NJ, was at long last reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Gardner Whiting Jr, on July 6th, 2025.
Eddie Lou is survived by her two children, Gary (Vicki) Whiting of Athens, GA, and Suzanne (Donald) Frank of Marlton, NJ; 5 grandchildren Eric (Evie) Whiting of Venice, CA, Donald (Lyndsay) Frank of Medford, NJ, Daniel of Marlton, NJ, David (Samantha) of Marlton, NJ and Kimberly (Joshua) Farrell of Philadelphia, PA; and 4 great-grandchilden, Beatrix, Chase, Charlotte and Addison – plus one on the way - as well as many loving nieces, nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Gardner, parents, and 7 sisters.
Eddie Lou was born in Shongaloo LA to Howell Tippit and Bertha Branton Tippit on June 7th, 1931. She left her childhood home at age 17 and followed her closest sister, Tavie Dollar, to Camden NJ where she worked at Camden Fire. It was there that she met the love of her life, Gardner, who she married in 1951. Eddie and Gardner soon moved to Medford Lakes, where they raised Gary and Suzy. She was a cub scout leader, brownie leader, Sunday school teacher, cheerleading coach and room mom. Later, she worked in real estate until her retirement in 1985. Eddie and Gardner moved to Columbia SC in 1987, then settled in Port Charlotte FL, where they spent their best days together, relaxing in the sunshine and nature of South Gulf Cove, spending precious time with their grandson Eric, traveling the country, and exploring the UK. In 2005, Eddie and Gardner moved to Southampton, NJ, and after Gardner's (too early) passing in 2006, Eddie spent her time reading, enjoying the birds, squirrels, and bunnies in her yard, and visiting with her Jersey grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Eddie never knew a stranger. She struck up a conversation with everyone she met on her near daily treks to Wawa, Murphy's, and the post office. Her friends at Oak Grove Church, in particular, held a special place in her heart. Her door was always open to anyone who cared to share time, cookies, and conversation on her back porch. Her sharp sense of humor, intelligence and zest for life will be missed deeply by all who knew and loved her.
A Christian funeral will be held on Saturday, July 19th at Mathis Funeral Home in Medford NJ, Visitation begins at 10 am, service to follow at 11 am. A private interment will be held at a later date.
