Born to Michael and Pauline (Marko) Skomoroh on January 24, 1938, in Arborg, Manitoba, Canada, Ed's journey through life was marked by an unwavering devotion to his family, his community, and his profession.
Ed graduated from Dryden High School in Canada in 1956, laying the foundation for a life dedicated to hard work and excellence. He began his career in his father's automotive business, Skomoroh Motors, where he honed his skills from 1954 to 1970. He then ventured into the oil industry with Shell Oil Bulk Distribution from 1960 to 1967 before joining Arctic Cat, where he served as Vice President of Sales and Marketing and General Manager for Canada from 1970 to 1982. His professional journey culminated at Polaris, where he held the title of President in Canada and Corporate Vice President of Sales and Marketing worldwide until his retirement in 2002. While working at Polaris, Ed also furthered his education, earning a degree in Advance Business Management from Harvard University.
Beyond titles and accomplishments, Ed had a gift for connecting with people. He could walk into any room and leave with a dozen new friends - always leading with his easy smile, genuine interest in others, and a storyteller's charm. He was a mentor to many, leaving an indelible mark on others through his unwavering principles and keen intellect - a lasting part of the legacy he leaves behind.
Ed married the love of his life, Jean Simon, on January 22, 1982, and together they built a beautiful life filled with adventure, laughter, and deep devotion. They exemplified a partnership filled with love and unwavering support. Family was always at the center of everything he did. Ed was a proud father to four daughters: Kathy, Shari, Georgette, and Lyndsi and proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Gus, Sam, Braxtin, Emily, Qino & Jaxin.
In 2000, Ed and Jean made Annandale their home, settling at Cedar Lake where he found great joy in his property, and taking in the beauty of the place they built together. When he wasn't perfecting the lawn, he could be found volunteering in the community he loved. He volunteered at the Annandale Food Shelf beginning in 2001, serving multiple years as President. He was also an active member of Annandale Health and Community Services, Minnesota Pioneer Park, and Bethlehem United Church of Christ. His enthusiasm for giving back was matched only by his lifelong passion for snowmobiling - which led him to lifelong friendships and to his induction into the International Snowmobile Hall of Fame.
Ed's passions were many, from his lifelong love of automobiles and snowmobiling to gardening, volunteering, and traveling. He was so proud of the home, immaculate yard, and surroundings he had so thoughtfully created and designed to gather family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Jean of Annandale; daughters, Kathy Lyn Skomoroh Oftebro of Chilliwack, BC, Shari-Lee Skomoroh of Denison, TX, Georgette (Rob) Lang of Winnipeg, MB, and Lyndsi-Lou (Gustavo) da Roza of Victoria Beach, MB; 6 grandchildren, Gus (Jane), Sam (Marisha), Braxtin (Hannah), Emily (Johnny), Qino (Margarita) & Jaxin; brother, Donald of Steinbach, MB; and other family members and many dear friends. Ed was preceded in death by his cherished parents, Michael and Pauline Skomoroh.
Ed's grandchildren will serve as casket bearers. Krista Elsenpeter and Julia Swanson will provide music for the service. Arrangements entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care Burial and Cremation Services of Annandale.
