Edgar Cameron Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home - Sanford on Mar. 3, 2026.
Edgar "Eddie" Lawrence Cameron III, 78, of Sanford, NC passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, February 28, 2026.

Eddie was born in Jonesboro Heights, North Carolina on November 28, 1947, to the late
Edgar Lawrence Cameron Jr. and Ida Mae Cameron. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother John Byron Cameron and his sister Betty Josephine Deason.

After earning a bachelor's degree in business administration from Campbell College, Eddie worked as a project manager in the commercial construction industry.

He began his career working at his father's company, DWC Contractors, in Fayetteville, NC, and later retired from Primax Construction, Inc. in Pinehurst, NC. In retirement, he enjoyed peaceful afternoons sitting on the boat dock with his cocker spaniel, Jag, watching the wildlife on the water, most notably the Great Blue Heron that visited often. Eddie loved water skiing, shag dancing, and sunset boat rides on Buffalo Lake with his family. He was a natural storyteller who could captivate a room with humor, heart, and the occasional long pause for added drama. Summer gardening kept him busy, often sparked by friendly competitions with his wife for the best tomato. Though known as a skilled cook, he is most fondly remembered for his love of chocolate, especially chocolate ice cream.

Eddie was very proud of his Scottish heritage. That pride shaped his strong sense of family, loyalty and quiet determination, qualities he carried throughout his life and passed on to those he loved.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Diana Cameron; his son, Thomas Adam Cameron of Fayetteville, NC; his daughters, Cassie Michelle Walters (Bobby) of Hope Mills, NC, and Jacqueline Suzanne Cameron of Raleigh, NC; his grandchildren, Christopher, Colby, and Caroline; and his great grandchild, Hayes.

A private graveside service will be held at Barbecue Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please donate to Barbecue Presbyterian Church,
