It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce the passing of Patricia J. Swindell, who entered the presence of her Savior on February 21, 2026, at the age of 79. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Matoka Jackson of
Autryville, NC.
A devoted teacher, gifted painter, and a faithful servant of Christ, Pat lived a life that reflected grace, creativity, and unwavering love. She believed deeply in the power of kindness, the beauty of learning, and the hope found in Jesus.
Pat graduated with her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Campbell University and later went on to receive her Masters of Education from Old Dominion University. For many years, Pat poured her heart into teaching, shaping young minds with patience, wisdom, and encouragement within Suffolk Public Schools. She saw potential in everyone and made each person feel valued and seen. Her classroom was not only a place of learning, but a place of warmth and belonging.
She expressed her love for God and the world around her through art as a painter. Her paintings captured beauty, faith, and emotion – each brushstroke a reflection of the joy she carried within. She found inspiration in creation and used her gifts to uplift others. Among her greatest joys were the hours spent painting in the company of dear friends. She loved the women she created with, and their shared laughter, encouragement, and friendship colored her life with beauty.
Pat was a devoted member of Millfield Baptist Church, where she faithfully served, prayed, and shared Christ's love with everyone she met. She loved her preacher and her fellow church members dearly. She served as a deacon, offered her time and creativity on the decorating committee, and joyfully helped with church events throughout the years. She loved pouring into others through teaching adult Sunday School classes and found special joy in serving during Vacation Bible School, where her warmth and encouragement touched many lives. Her service was never for recognition, but an expression of the love and gratitude she carried in her heart. Her faith was not only spoken but lived daily through compassion, generosity, and quiet strength.
Above all, she cherished her family. Her life was a testimony of faithful love in action. She tenderly cared for her parents and her in-laws through the seasons of aging, honoring them with patience and dignity. She stood as a pillar of strength for her husband after his return from Vietnam, offering unwavering support and companionship, walking with him through every season that followed. She loved her son and her grandchildren with every fiber of her being and had a special way of filling ordinary moments with warmth, laughter, and belonging. Pat was a source of wisdom, comfort, and steady love. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the lessons she taught, and the faith she passed down.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Elisha T. Swindell; son, Gary T. Swindell (wife, Emily); granddaughter, Ashley S. Fisher (husband, Chris); grandsons, Hunter T. Swindell, Haiden A. Swindell, Harrison J. Swindell, and Hudson H. Swindell; great-granddaughter Emerson B. Fisher; and Andrew R. Maurey (wife, Amber - loved like a grandson).
Though our hearts grieve her absence, we rejoice in the promise that she is now at peace in the presence of our Heavenly Father.
