Frances Horne Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory - Wakefield on Feb. 14, 2026.
Frances Ann Horne, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother left us peacefully surrounded by family on February 10, 2026 at the age of 82. Frances was born in Edenton, North Carolina and for the last 30 years, has lived in Disputanta, Virginia with her husband, Albert.

Frances was the heart and matriarch of the family, a woman defined by her generosity, strength, and unwavering devotion to those she loved. She was hardworking, resilient, and deeply caring - someone who gave freely always putting others before herself. Her family was her everything, and she poured her heart into creating a life filled with warmth, love, and laughter. She loved to laugh, share funny family stories and brighten every room she entered. Her kindness, humor and lively spirit made the world a brighter place for everyone fortunate enough to know her. Frances' legacy of love, strength, and generosity will forever be carried in the hearts of her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Albert Lee Horne; her five children, William Godfrey, Susan Carter, Teresa (Jerry) Andreatos, Daniel (Louise) Amos, and James (Tracie) Wooten; ten grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents, Fannie Mae West and Lee Roy Phelps, and brothers, Lee Roy Phelps, Jr. and Jimmy C. Phelps.

Due to limited space at the church, a private funeral service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, 203 East Main Street, Waverly, Virginia. A graveside service open to all will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2026 at 3:30 PM. at Wakefield Cemetery, 205 West Church Street, Wakefield, Virginia. A Celebration of Life will follow in the Wakefield United Methodist Church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home, Wakefield Chapel is serving the family.
