William Drewry Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory - Wakefield on Mar. 10, 2026.
William Warren Drewry, lovingly known by his friends and family as "Billy", "Dad", and "Grandpa", went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at the age of 90. He was born on August 4, 1935, in Surry County, Virginia, but spent most of his life living in the Town of Wakefield. He graduated from Wakefield High School in 1953. In 1957, Billy married the love of his life, Rosalie Stallings Drewry, and on February 2, 2026, they celebrated their 69th anniversary. In 1965, Billy opened Drewry's Grocery and Hardware store in Wakefield on Railroad Avenue and operated it for 23 years where he grew plants and crafted picture frames for the community that he loved. In 1988, Billy went to work for Carroll Foods (later Murphy-Brown and then Smithfield Foods) and remained there for more than 20 years until he retired.

Billy never met a stranger. He would strike up a conversation with anyone everywhere he went. He was a faithful member of the Wakefield United Methodist Church. He was a lifelong member of the Wakefield Ruritan Club. Billy loved playing sports (baseball, basketball, bowling, cornhole, golf and tennis) and watching sports (baseball, football, basketball, and golf). He cheered on his children and grandchildren from the sidelines at numerous games. Billy enjoyed his many bus trips to Baltimore to see the Orioles play. He loved celebrating his birthday every year at the OBX with his family.

He was predeceased by his parents, Howard E. Drewry, Sr. and Edith Warren Drewry as well as his brothers: Howard E. Drewry, Jr. and James A. Drewry.

Billy is survived by his wife, Rosalie, and his three children: Tricia Faubert (Ed); Billy Kerrn Drewry (Stephanie); and Timothy W. Drewry (Kelly). He was the proud grandfather of four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also left to cherish his memory are his two brothers Emmett T. Drewry (Lizzie) and Thomas E. Drewry (Joanne) and his many nieces and nephews and family friends.

Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to Wakefield United Methodist Church, 205 W. Church Street, Wakefield, VA 23888, or to a charity of your choice.
