Mr. Edgar “Edd” Glenwood Tate, age 93, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday morning, January 7, 2026 with his loving family by his side. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great great grandfather, who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Pa worked many years running his own sawmill, helped around the community mowing yards, hauling off scrap metal, just being a friend to anyone. In his spare time, he could be found at a carp pond, which he was a master at, watching westerns and ballgames, but most importantly he loved to have the presence of family around him, spending time with them, which he was most proud of. Left to cherish Pa’s memories are his daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Taylor and David, Susie Holt and Norman, Phyllis Martin and Ansley, Valerie Dollyhite and Melvin; son and daughters-in-law, Steve Tate and Kitty, Freida Tate, Sharon Kay Tate; grandchildren, Christy Partin, Misty Boyer, Tammy Delp, Chad Smith, Carrie Edwards, Wayne Tate, Burt Tate, Ansley Martin, Jr., Cindy Martin, Jason Tate, Ocean Rowe, Brooke Goins, Bree Dollyhite; 27 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 6 step great grandchildren, 4 step great-great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Pa was preceded in death by his loving wife, Martha “Lorraine” Tate; sons, James Tate, Dennis Tate; sisters, Rachel, Opal, Hazel; brothers, John D., Wade, Junior. A graveside service to honor Pas’ life will be held on Monday, January 12, 2026, at 2:00 PM at The Peoples Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Jerry Pardue and Dr. Rick Jackson officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 12, 2026, from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM, at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
