Edgar Fowler Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Living Waters Funeral Home & Crematory - Lyman on Jan. 27, 2026.
Spartanburg – Edgar "Ed" Paul Fowler, Jr., 77, of Spartanburg, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2026. He was the son of the late Edgar Paul Fowler, Sr. and Laura Honicutt Fowler of Spartanburg, SC. Ed graduated from Dorman High School in 1966 and subsequently attended Wofford College. While at Wofford, he enlisted in the Army National Guard where he honorably served until 1973. In 1970, he began work at Eastern Airlines at the Greenville-Spartanburg airport where he stayed until 1986. While he was proud of his military career and his tenure at Eastern, his first love was racing which flourished after he bought his 1969 Camaro Z28. He turned that love into a long career of high-performance engine building which included engines that raced at Greenville-Pickens Speedway in the 1970s, owning his own engine shop with his son Matt, and even a stint as an engine builder with a NASCAR team. Ed also had a passion for golf and, whenever possible, he could be found on the golf course. He had the ability to carry on a conversation with anyone about almost anything but he particularly loved talking about golf. He put those skills to use in his last career in the golf department at Dick's Sporting Goods. It made him happy that he was able to share his knowledge and skills with his customers every day until he retired. After he retired, he spent most of his time with his partner Amanda and his pets. He will be remembered fondly by many and his absence will be felt by his family. He is survived by his daughter Shannon Fowler Williams (Greg) and his son Matthew Fowler; his brother Ron Fowler (Glenda), his sister, Martha Fowler Jennings (Donald); and three nephews Noah Jennings, Shawn Fowler, and Steve Fowler and their families. He also leaves behind his beloved dogs Cam and Reese and his cat Recon who will miss him dearly. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his partner Choon Pace who passed away in 1999 followed by his most recent partner, Amanda Metcalfe who passed away in 2024 as well as several special animal companions. We take comfort in knowing that he is with those he loved and can now find peace. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Thursday, February 5, 2026 at Living Waters Funeral Home and Crematory, 529 Spartanburg Hwy. S., Lyman, SC 29365. Military Honors will be at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Wood Memorial Park, 863 Gap Creek Road, Greer, SC 29651. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Spartanburg Humane Society at spartanburghumane.org.
