Edgar R. Mansilla, 68, "Taco", of Chicago's Portage Park neighborhood, formerly of Chicago's Uptown neighborhood, passed away at Rainbow Hospice and Palliative Care in Chicago on October 23, 2024.

Born in Guatemala City, Guatemala, in Edgar's youth he was a "fish", a term used in Guatemala for "street fighter". He moved to the United States in 1976 and settled in Chicago. He was often found playing soccer at the fields at Wilson and Lake Shore Drive- Edgar and his buddies would play into the night until they were kicked out. It was at that same park at Wilson and Lake Shore Drive where he met Thelma Paz, and they soon after married in 1986. Edgar helped raise Thelma's children in the Uptown neighborhood.

Edgar could always be found riding his bike everywhere, no matter the condition of the weather. A machine operator at Flexan Corp for many years, later in life he worked as a security guard at Dominick's and also upholstered school buses. He loved the Chicago Cubs and Bears!

Beloved husband of 38 years to Thelma Mansilla. Devoted father of Luis (Ingrid) Alvarez, Claudia (Jorge) Pozuelos, Gloria (Jose) Alvarez Feliciano, and Elena McKenna. Father-in-law of Thomas McKenna. Edgar loved and cherished all nine of his grandchildren: Jorge Luis, Jose Luis, Veronica, Emmanuel, Kayla, Bryanna, Luis Rolando, Camila, and Carolina. Brother of hermanas: Berta Mansilla, Estela Mansilla, and Rosa Ronquillo, y hermanos, Waldemar Mansilla and Jose Mansilla. Preceded in death by parents Jose and Rosalina Mansilla.

The family has chosen private cremation service.

Memorial Mass Saturday, November 9, 1pm, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 813 W. Roosevelt Rd. Chicago, IL 60608.

Nacido en la Ciudad de Guatemala, Guatemala, en su juventud Edgar era un "pez", un término usado en Guatemala para "luchador callejero". Se mudó a los Estados Unidos en 1976 y se estableció en Chicago. A menudo se lo encontraba jugando al fútbol en los campos de Wilson y Lake Shore Drive; Edgar y sus amigos jugaban hasta la noche hasta que los echaban. Edgar amaba y apreciaba a sus nueve nietos: Jorge Luis, José Luis, Verónica, Emmanuel, Kayla, Bryanna, Luis Rolando, Camila y Carolina. Hermano de hermanas: Berta Mansilla, Estela Mansilla y Rosa Ronquillo, y hermanos, Waldemar Mansilla y José Mansilla. Le precedieron en la muerte sus padres, José y Rosalina Mansilla.
