Edgar A. Mincy, 75, was born to Asberry and Queen V. Ellis Mincy on February 28, 1948, in Candler County, Georgia. He was the youngest of nine children. He attended the public schools of Candler County and was a graduate of the Lillian Street High School class of 1966.
Upon completion high school, Edgar joined the United States Army and proudly served during the Vietnam era where he received a Purple Heart for his courage and heroism.
After honorably serving, Edgar embarked on a long career in transportation services with the Army and Air Force Exchange. While employed, he was honored the National Private Truck Council (NPTC) and inducted into the NPTC/Bridgestone Firestone Driver Hall of Fame for driving over 3 million accident-free miles.
Edgar retired in 2015 and pursued his true passion, food. He accomplished so many things in life, but the quality of his ribs cannot be over-stated. That Man Could Cook!!!!
Edgar departed his life on Thursday, January 11, 2024, after a sudden illness in Hampton, Virgina. He was preceded in death by his parents Asberry and Queen V. Mincy; two brothers, Asberry Mincy, Jr. and Charlie Leo Mincy; four sisters, Sarah Mincy, Mable (Mae - Bell) Cook, Mary P. Mincy and Leomia Williams and his aunt, Ruby Wright.
His memories will be cherished by his devoted life partner, Janice Smith; his brother, Lil Willie Claude Mincy of Metter, GA; two sisters, Lilla Mae Barlow and Thelma Tansion Davis both of Newark, NJ; one aunt, Almeeter Phillips of Metter, GA; an adopted sister, Edith Henry of Metter, GA; his stepdaughter, Nina Muse; his beloved godson / grandson, Clifford Muse III of Monmouth Junction, NJ; beloved friends, Bernard Scott, Eric Hoff and Manya Hicks, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Edgar was well loved and will be remembered for his kindness, compassion towards others his love of cars, barbeque, pork skins, and his tough love personality. His memory will keep his spirits alive in our hearts.
