Edgar R. Surprenant Jr.

Edgar R. Surprenant, Jr., 87 of Branford, passed away on May 13, 2025, at home surrounded by loved ones. He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Leola Steen Surprenant. He was the loving father of Stephen R. Surprenant of Dallas, TX, Laura J. Surprenant of Branford, CT, Theresa H. Surprenant and her husband Roland Wang of North Branford, CT, and Rebecca M. and her husband James Jacobs, Sr. of North Haven, CT. Loving grandfather to Allison, Marissa, and Natalee Wang. Step-grandfather to James Jr. and Ashley Jacobs, and step-great-grandfather to Jayden and Cameron. Edgar was born in New Haven, CT on April 22, 1938, to the late Edgar R. and Mary (Zisk) Surprenant, Sr. Edgar proudly served in the U.S. Army at White Sands, New Mexico, where he met the love of his life. They married and moved to Branford, where they were residents for 58 years. After obtaining his electrical engineering degree from the University of New Haven, Edgar worked for Southern New England Telephone (SNET) for 40 years. An active member of his church parish, Edgar was the chairman of the annual carnival, a parish council member, a catechism teacher, and a Eucharistic minister. He was also involved in local politics and served on several committees in Branford. Always with multiple projects in process, there was never something that Edgar couldn't do. He will be remembered for his quick wit and his willingness to share his knowledge.His funeral procession will leave the PORTO FUNERAL HOME, 234 Foxon Rd. (Rte. 80), East Haven, MONDAY morning, May 19, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish in Our Lady of Pompeii Church at 11:00 a.m. Interment with Military Honors will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery. Family and friends may call SUNDAY from 4pm to 7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Orchard House, 421 Shore Dr. in Branford, CT.
