Edith Andersen Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carmon Poquonock Funeral Home on Jan. 28, 2026.
Edith Andersen (Sanzo), 86, of Windsor, CT, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2026. Edith was born on January 4, 1940, in Hartford and was raised in Hartford's South End, the daughter of the late Mary (Santacroce) and Lorenzo Sanzo.
Edith met the love of her life in 1956, Gilbert, at a high school football game at the age of 16. She graduated Buckley High School in 1958. Edith and Gilbert married in 1960 and moved to Windsor, where Gilbert predeceased Edith in 1992. Edith lived the remainder of her life in the home where they raised their family.
Edith spent her lifetime caring for and raising her family. She was known for her entertaining and welcomed everyone into her home. She hosted all the holidays and was famous for her Italian cooking and baking. Nothing made Edith happier than a houseful of people to cook for. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and socializing with everyone that came to visit. Edith also enjoyed going on cruises and just recently cruised to Bermuda with her entire family, a trip that she cherished. She also loved going to the casino and playing the slot machines.
Edith is survived by her four children, Sandra Andersen, Lisa Andersen, Michael Andersen and his wife Kristine, and Linda Dillon, all of Windsor; her four grandchildren, Nicholas Dillon and his wife Meg of Windsor Locks, Jessica Dillon and her fiancé Jacob Falotico of Colchester, Emily Andersen, and Charlotte Andersen of Windsor; her brother Lawrence Sanzo of Windsor, and her sister-in-law, Sylvia Malloy of Newington. She is also survived by her dear friend, Kathy Connors, and her adored nephew Richard Sanzo, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Edith was predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband of 31 years, Gilbert I. Andersen, ten brothers, Joseph, John, Frank, Antonio, Victor, Amerigo, Michael, Umberto, Nicola, William Sanzo, and her sister Mary Sanzo.
Edith's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and aides in the North Atrium A wing at Suffield House for their kind and compassionate care.
Edith's family will receive friends and family on Monday, February 2, 2026, from 5pm-7 pm at the Carmon Poquonock Funeral Home, 1816 Poquonock Avenue, Windsor, CT 06095. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at 11 AM at St. Joseph Church, 1747 Poquonock Ave., Windsor, CT 06095. Family and friends are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, 2101 Poquonock Ave., Windsor, CT 06095.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Edith's memory may be made to the Social Action Committee at St. Damien Parish, 379 Broad Street, Windsor, CT 06095
