Edith Baynes Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stevens Funeral Home - Valdosta on Dec. 25, 2025.
In the year of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, in nineteen hundred and sixty eight in Valdosta, GA, a baby girl by the name of Edith Latrenda Wells was born to the late Bishop Clarence and Evangelist Gladys Wells.

Edith received Christ at an early age and was raised up in Prayer Temple Holiness Church, where her father was the Pastor.

Edith was educated in the Valdosta City Schools System and was a proud graduate of the Class of 1986. Edith worked various jobs including South Georgia Pecan Factory, Shell Gas Station and Goodwill.

She was a faithful wife to Mr. Johnny Baynes for twenty nine years as well as a loving mother, daughter and grandmother whom all will dearly miss her.

On Thursday, December 25, 2025, at Edith's residence, God looked around His garden and found an empty place; He then looked down upon the earth and saw Edith's precious face. He put His arms around her and lifted her unto eternal rest.

Edith is preceded in death by her parents, Bishop Clarence and Evangelist Gladys Wells; her brother, Leon Wells; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Fletcher and Clara Baynes.

Edith leaves to cherish her memories to her husband of twenty nine years, Johnny Fletcher Baynes; her daughter, Amy Braswell; one sister, Darlene Fiffie; step-mother, Sister Marian Wells; five grandchildren, Amya Wilcox, DeVan Wilcox, Eric Thomas, Jr., Jaquea Williams and Cai Walden; also a host of cousins, relatives and friends.

The celebration of life service will be held Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at Prayer Temple Holiness Church, 721 Smith Drive, Valdosta, GA 31601. Pastor Vernell Henry, officiating. Burial will follow at the Southview Cemetery.

Public viewing will be held Friday, January 2, 2026 from 12:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
