Edith Maxine Trimpey Buxton, affectionately known as "Edie," passed away peacefully on September 29, 2025, in Sun City West, Arizona, at the remarkable age of 102. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Edie lived her life with grace, humor, and an appreciation for beauty in all things.
Born on July 11, 1923, on a farm outside of Culbertson, Nebraska, Edie was the daughter of Nathan and Lovie B. Trimpey and sister to Edna Trimpey Carter. She spent her early years surrounded by the warmth of family, despite depression era hardships, values she carried with her throughout her long and fulfilling life. Edie was married to Arthur A. Buxton (Art), with whom she shared many joyful years before his passing.
A member of the Order of Eastern Star and the First Presbyterian Church, Edie lived her faith through quiet kindness and community spirit. She had a long and storied career as a Registered Nurse, was a Rosie the Riveter and is listed on the Women's Memorial in Washington, D.C. as a member of the Cadet Nurses Corps in WWII.
Edie's home in Sun City was a canvas of color and personality, a reflection of her vibrant spirit and impeccable sense of style. Friends and family will remember her for her radiant smile that could put anyone at ease and for her sometimes irreverent, always delightful sense of humor. An avid reader and lifelong learner, she found joy in stories-both those she read and those she lived through the generations of her family.
Nothing brought Edie more pride than her family. She is survived by her three children -Thomas A. Buxton of San Diego, CA; Gaynel L. Buxton of Sun City, AZ; and Carla J. Jones of Blytheville, AR. She delighted in her grandchildren -Ysaura Sine of Fairview, WV; Jamari Buxton of Culver City, CA; Ashley Wallace of Harriman, TN; Jhimye Jones of Washougal, WA; and Jhesse Jones of Wantagh, NY-as well as her many great-grandchildren: Ozzy Lister, Lily Gibson, Ghrey Jones, Mahala Wallace, Julia Wallace, Ruby Wallace, Bibi Buxton, Cleo Buxton, Dheaglan Sine, Sullivan Jones and Hugo Jones.
Though no formal service is planned, her family celebrates the remarkable life she lived for more than a century, Edie's energy and spirit made her timeless. Her laughter, her love of books, art and beauty, her generous heart and quick wit will be deeply missed by those who were fortunate enough to share her life.
