Edith Coburn Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jardine Funeral Home, Inc. - Strongsville on Jul. 19, 2024.
Edith Banta Coburn was welcomed peacefully home by Jesus the evening of July 4, 2024. Edith was born on Aug 18, 1926 in Louisville, KY. She graduated from the University of Louisville where she studied sociology and also met the love of her life, Ted. After marrying in 1949, they lived in Columbus, Washington DC, and finally settled in Rochester, NY in 1957 where they raised their three children and Ted worked for Eastman Kodak. Edith & Ted celebrated 63 years of marriage. They regularly led Bible studies, taught Sunday School, played bridge, and traveled to many parts of the world - but they always prioritized family & friends. Edith loved being a wife, stay-at-home mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She enjoyed hosting Christmas family gatherings, riding on carousels, playing games, visiting tea houses, having evening devotions, and loving on her family & friends well. Sue Ellen and Jim were with her at the end as she probably heard from God, "Well done good and faithful servant, welcome home.'
Edith was predeceased by her husband, Theodore James Coburn, her sisters Doris Fields Nichols, and Mary Ann Bonta. She leaves behind her children Sue Ellen (James) Doyle, Charles (Kathy) Coburn and Joanne (Stephen) Salyards; grandchildren Ryan, Michelle, Lauren, Theodore, Brendan, Rebecca, Philip and Timothy and great grandchildren, Ella, Henry, Vera, Jack, Joylia, Gracelyn, Eleanor, Aaron, - also two more on the way.
Edith taught by example how to love God and people by being genuine, loving deeply and praying for others faithfully. She will be profoundly missed, but her memories and example will live on in our hearts.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00pm on Sat, Aug 24, 2024 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 4115 Dewey Ave, Rochester, NY 14616. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Aldersgate Methodist Church or Samaritan's Purse (www.samaritanspurse.org)
