Edith Ella Hauser passed away January 6, 2025, at the age of 94 surrounded by her loving family. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, January 20th at 5 pm at the Merle Hay Chapel. The family will receive friends from 3:30 pm until service time. She will be inurned at the Iowa Veteran Cemetery with Honors.
Edith was born on June 13, 1930, in St. Louis, Missouri to her parents Adolf Wilhelm and Kate Lotti (Braune) Voertmann. She graduated from Kirkwood High School in Missouri, then joined the Army in 1953, where she met and married Jack Clifford Hauser on June 11, 1955. They started their new life together in Johnston, Iowa, where she lived until her passing.
Family was Edith's passion as she cared for her three children always taking them on summer trips back to her Missouri home and family. When her grandchildren came, the trips also included spring break. She also was involved in golf and bowling leagues. Edith was a Girl Scout leader, poll worker and served on City Advisory committees. Edith loved to sew, knit and crochet. Hats and mittens were her specialty, and many were donated to elementary students. She returned to the work force in 1975 at Dahl's Food Store and retired after nearly 30 years in customer service.
Edith loved to travel. These journeys took her to places including: Washington D.C., Alaska, Turkey, Mexico and her parent's homeland of Germany. Games always played a big part of family fun which continued throughout her life. A tradition of playing certain card games every holiday as well as weekly card games with her family, continued right up to a few days before her passing.
Edith is survived by her children Janice (Stephen) Haag, Steven (Karla) Hauser, Jacki (James) Strawbridge; grandchildren Andrea (Aaron Beltrame) Haag, Joshua (Jackie) Haag, Rebekah (Josiah) Songer, Lora Haag, Trent Hauser, Chrisanne Hauser, Alissa Strawbridge, Dane Strawbridge and 9 great grandchildren; her brother Frank Voertmann, first cousins Elizabeth Coughlin & Kurt Braune; as well as many nieces, nephews, other cousins and friends. In death Edith rejoins her husband Jack of 64 years and parents Adolf and Kate.
The family would like to thank EveryStep Hospice and McAuley Terrace Independent Living for their loving care of Edith.
