With hearts that are heavy but filled with love and gratitude for a life lived beautifully, we celebrate and pay tribute to the remarkable journey of Edith Lavern Allen Johnson, a faithful wife, mother and grandmother, enthusiastic community member and faithful servant of the Lord.

Edith was born on December 16, 1943, in Jefferson, Texas to the union of Curley Allen, Sr. and Ethel Lee Child's Allen. Being one of thirteen kids, Edith loved her siblings and had great moments with them even through adulthood. As a child, Edith stood out with her quiet strength, sharp mind, and deep compassion. Growing up in a large close-knit family taught her the values of resilience, generosity, and faith, values that would define her life and legacy.

In 1963, Edith and WK joined in holy matrimony, which would span over 61 years. Together they built a beautiful family, raising four children: Cedric, Kevin, Cheryl, and Willie. Edith enjoyed being a mother, always seeking the best for her children. Delighted in providing the healthiest foods, sending them to the best schools, and teaching them character.

Edith joins her sons, sisters, and brothers in heaven. Sons; Cedric Johnson and Willie K. Johnson, Jr., Sisters; Earnestine DeLois Allen Brown, Dorothy Lee Allen Goynes and Mary Lena Allen Smith, Brothers; Curley Allen, Jr., David Key Allen, Don Allen, Ernest Allen, Norman Preston Allen, Thurman Allen and Vernon Allen.

Edith attended and graduated from Central High School in Jefferson, Texas where she developed a love of learning and a vision for her future. After graduating from high school, she attended Jarvis Christian College, Draughon Business School, and Texas College where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. Her pursuit of knowledge never stopped. Following receiving her Bachelor of Science Degree, she attended Stephen F. Austin State University pursuing courses that would lead to an advanced degree in education.

Edith's passion for education led her to a lengthy career with the Marshall Public Schools where she highlighted her different talents and abilities. She excelled in whatever assignments assigned. Coworkers often sought her out for guidance on situations that plagued them. She touched the lives of countless students and fellow educators.
