Edith Elizabeth Lampley Robertson was born on July 12th, 1924, the second of nine children to the late Cora Dell Lampley and Arch Mack Lampley in Fairview, Tennessee. Preceded in death by husband Walter Robertson; brothers, Kenneth Lampley, Clyde Lampley, and James Lampley; sister, Ruth Kelley.
Living a full ninety-seven years, she touched many lives, in many ways. She graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1942, and then moved to Old Hickory, TN where she began to work as a true “Rosie the Riveter” in the Vultee airplane factory. After World War II, or “the war” as she used to call it, she worked on one of the first computers at IBM, when they were “bigger than a room”. Edith met Walter Robertson before the war and they married in 1945. Entrepreneurial partners, Edith and Walter opened a construction company with Edith acting as accountant, interior designer and secretary of the company.
She was a friend, neighbor, farmer, gardener, caregiver, and business owner, however her real life’s work was her family.
Edith Robertson is survived by her four children, Charles Robertson, Steven (Cindy), Karen (Don), and Sheila Robertson; her grandchildren Rachel (Zack) Jones, Christopher (Molly) Hite, Erin Hite, Graham (Kristen) Robertson, Jordan (Sarah) Robertson, and Edith Tiller, her great grandchildren Price Jones, Lillian Hite, Emery Robertson and Sawyer Hite. Edith is also survived by her siblings, Eleanor Galbraith, Yvonne Wheeler, Don Lampley and Jerry Lampley.
