Edith Yaney Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Andres-Wuestefeld Funeral Home - Dover on Jul. 30, 2025.
Edith "Edie" Marie Yaney, 76, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, May 29th, 2025. She was born in Marion, Virginia, and lived in many different places during her life, including Glade Springs, Virginia, Bristol, Virginia, Knoxville, Tennessee, Abingdon, Virginia, Jacksonville, North Carolina, Guilford, Indiana, and Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Edie was best known for her zest for life and fun loving spirit! She was someone who made friends easily and was always ready to lend a helping hand or share a kind word. She loved staying active and healthy, and her favorite job was teaching aerobics at the Jacksonville Senior Center. She cared deeply about her family and her faith. She was proudly married for 41 years to Gunnery Sergeant Chauncey "Russ" Yaney, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Sadly, Russ passed away in January 2024. Edie was an avid sports fan, always rooting for the underdog, unless her favorite team was their opponent! She especially enjoyed college football and always cheered for the South Carolina Gamecocks in the fall. She followed all the NFL teams and had a special fondness for the Cincinnati Bengals. She also enjoyed going to baseball games with her family, supporting the Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds. Edie will be greatly missed by her family: her children, Joseph (Sandi) Caywood and Jennifer (Steve) Zajac; her grandchildren Danielle Caywood (Kellie), Patrick Caywood, Jakki Frankenhoff, Jodi (Jonathan) Franciose, Katie Zajac, and Isaac Zajac; and her great-grandchildren Patrick Tate Saunders, Jaxxon Saunders, Lilly McKinnon, and Sofie Frankenhoff. She is also survived by her brother Ronald (Carol Ann) Thomas, her sister Opal (Jim) Kestner, and her nieces and nephews: Amy (Danny) Salyer, Jimmy "Bo" Kestner, Ryan (Caleb) Carr, Jacob (Taryn) Thomas and many great nieces and great nephews that she loved! She is preceded in death by her parents, Graham and Ernestine Thomas. She also will be dearly missed by her former husband and friend, Gary South. A funeral service for Edie will take place on Monday, June 2, at Andres-Wuestefeld Funeral Home. Visiting hours will be from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, and the service will start at 2:00 pm. Family and friends are invited to share their condolences at www.andres-wuestefeldfh.com.
