Obituary published on Legacy.com by Andres-Wuestefeld Funeral Home - Dover on Dec. 31, 2025.
Mary Jean Wethington (79 years old) of
Aurora, IN passed peacefully while she was resting during the early hours of December 29, 2025. Mary Jean's life was devoted to her "Beloved", her Triune God. Her vocation as a Perpetual Contemplative was her Source of all meaning and purpose, her Identity in Christ. The sanctuary light in her soul was kept bright and sanctified through the daily divine breadcrumbs that she responded to with delight and wonder every day.
Mary Jean had a deep and devout love for animals and many were fortunate to be part of her daily life. Her horses (Flame, Beloved) dogs (Sammy, Francie, Bess, Foxy, Rosie) and even the neighboring kittens, deer and cattle (named "650") whom she called by their individual tag number, were recipients of her boundless affection. Mary Jean found deep meaning and gratitude in her role as Spiritual Director to others. She loved birds, flowers and music. She was an avid musician and pianist and was honored to use these gifts at Church, including being a lector.
As a spiritual companion, through adorative prayer and Healing Touch Ministry , Mary Jean was a source of love and compassion. As Spiritual Care Coordinator at Mercy Franciscan Terrace, she helped many people transition from this life to the next. She believed that earthly life was a "foretaste" of heaven, and that we experience the "Fullness" of Heaven after our death. She expressed that people are closer to us after their passing than they ever could be while living.
One of her greatest joys was her home, called "Respite Oratory", which she would say, "by God's grace" became an intimate place of prayer and healing for others. She loved having her "Bridges" group there, faithful women who would come together in God's Word through Lectio Divina. Mary Jean was blessed by an All Saints Parish Mission Trip when many high school students, parents, and priests took part in sprucing up her sanctuary. The team spent multiple days cutting down trees, cleaning up the yard, and doing their part to improve the beauty of her land. She was called to build a cross in her Barn, where people could place their prayer intentions, pray and heal. Walking the cross and praying over these intentions was a part of her daily ritual. Plans to move this cross to a Dearborn County Catholic church property are underway to allow accessibility to everyone. This endeavor, called the Respite Oratory Project, will be a treasured legacy of what mattered most to her – directing others to God's love and healing.
Mary Jean's love of bling fashion, jewelry, color (pinks and blues) and effusive spirit will forever embody a life of devotion and leave a smile on the hearts of all who knew and experienced her "blessings".
