John Leroy Kraus, 83, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2025. John was a veteran of the United States Air Force for 7 years. He was an alumnus of St. Xavier High School and graduated from Valley High School. He worked for Alcan Aluminum for over 40 years. John spent his post retirement years working at Sun Valley Golf Course where he continued his favorite past time, golf. As an avid golfer, he proudly displayed his two hole-in-one certificates in his office. He successfully "shot his age" several times in his 70’s. John was always working on keeping his single digit handicap. John recently celebrated 43 years of sobriety.
John was born on December 13, 1942 in Aurora, Indiana to Jay and Julia (Doerr) Kraus. He is preceded in death by his Father, Jay C. Kraus, Mother, Julia Kraus, Children, Randy Davidson, Susan Aldridge, Brothers, William Kraus and Thomas Kraus.
John is survived by his loving Wife of 53 years, Ruth Alice Kraus, Children, Kathy (Rodney) Garvin, Terry Davidson, Heather (John) Broadbent, 7 Grandchildren, 10 Great-Grandchildren, Sisters, Kathy (Terry) Hackett, Barbara (Pete) Gonatas, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends to cherish his memory forever.
Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 11:30 am on Monday, January 12, 2026 at Newcomer Cremations,Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel, (10304 Dixie Hwy). His Funeral Service will be at 11:30 am on Monday, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel with burial to follow at Louisville Memorial Gardens West in Louisville, Kentucky.
