Bill Wine Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home - Louisville on Feb. 10, 2026.
William L. "Bill" Wine, age 78, passed away on Saturday, February 7th, 2026.

He was born in Louisville on June 2nd, 1947, the son of Raymond and Mary Jane Wine. He graduated from St. Xavier High School in 1965, and earned his bachelor's degree at Bellarmine College in 1969. Bill was married to the love of his life, Barbara Flanders Wine, for 55 years. Together, they raised their family of three children: Lara, Robby and Erin.

He devoted over 20 years coaching female sports; including 5th/6th grade basketball at Ascension, and varsity softball at the alma mater of his wife, daughters and granddaughters, Presentation Academy. In 2002, Bill was inducted into the Kentucky Softball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

He was a loyal Los Angeles Dodgers fan, and a true baseball fanatic who visited stadiums across the country, chasing down autographs. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge through stories, trivia and stats.

Bill found joy in sharing his post-retirement love of photography, where he captured memories for family and friends, as well as countless events throughout the Louisville community. He also captured life to its fullest through traveling, spending time with his grandkids, coaching and being the man behind the camera.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Raymond Wine, Jr.

He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Flanders Wine; daughter, Lara Uhls (Jimmy); son, Robby Wine (Susan); daughter, Erin Davis (Rob); and his eight grandchildren: Emma, Molly and Annabelle Uhls; Jakson and Hennessy Wine; and Claire, Addison and Charlotte Davis.

He is also survived by his sisters, Susan Gilman (Joe) and Janet Summers; and sister-in-law, Jan Wine (Raymond).

Bill's memorial visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, February 13th, at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road. His memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Saturday, February 14th, at Church of the Ascension, 4600 Lynnbrook Drive, with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Memories and stories of Bill will continue to live on, but his presence will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Bill's memory be made to the Presentation Academy Flanders/Wine Scholarship fund, 861 S. Fourth Street, Louisville, KY 40203.

Just was made aware of Bills passing. I worked with Bill for 19 years in the insurance business. Traveled on several occasions with Bill, my son, & his best friend to several MLB stadiums. We all loved baseball. We learned a lot from each other & I appreciate all he did for me. Wished I was aware of this sooner. I´m sure he´s happy with the LA Dodgers. Bill. My sympathies to Barbara & his family . Chris Mudd.
