David Wayne Smith "Smitty", 71, of Louisville, KY passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 11, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. David was born on September 24, 1954 in Louisville, KY to the late Francis E. Smith "Smitty" and Kay Smith. He graduated in 1972 from Western High School. He worked for Dauenhauer Plumbing for 20 plus years as a Licensed Journeyman Plumber.
David loved animals, especially horses and dogs. He and his father use to barrel race horses. He was into boxing and played softball and bowled. David loved the Andy Griffith Show, especially Barney Fife. He and his wife enjoyed the old reruns of Gunsmoke and other westerns. David was a loyal U of L fan and loved Toby Keith.
He was preceded in death by his parents. David is survived by his loving wife, Kay Smith, his three beautiful children, Kerry (Shannon) Smith, Shelly (Drew) Matthis and Timmy (Michelle) Smith, two granddaughters, Makayla and Addyson and one grandson, Landon, his siblings, Bridget (Jim) Case and Scott Smith along with several nieces and nephews.
The family kindly suggests that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy be made to the Kentucky Humane Society.
