Edna Jane (Calhoun) Bloom, 82, of Lake City passed away peacefully on Wednesday August 28, 2024, surrounded by family.
Edna was born a daughter to the late Harry and Nellie (Rogers) Calhoun on January 31, 1942. She graduated from Karns City High School. Following high school, she attended Edinboro College and attained a master's degree in education. After graduating, she taught fifth grade in Faulkner, New York for two years and then moved to Girard where she continued teaching fifth grade math and science for over thirty years until her retirement in 1997.
Edna enjoyed traveling from a young age, she traveled extensively throughout the United States in her retirement years with her husband and often returned to Odessa, Texas to visit family there. She loved to babysit her grandchildren, as well as knitting and sewing quilts or blankets for her family. Edna also liked working with her hands in crafts as well as growing flowers and vegetables in her garden. In her later years, making an occasional bet at the Erie Casino and horse races gave her great excitement.
Edna was preceded in death by her husband William "Bill" Bloom whom she married in 1962, as well as three brothers; Harry P. Calhoun, James R. Calhoun, and Finley J. Calhoun.
She will be greatly missed by her family which includes three sons William R. Bloom, Ray Alan Bloom (Valerie), Jon P. Bloom (Christen); a brother Jan E. Calhoun; four grandchildren, Amber Bloom, Amanda Bloom, Alexander Bloom, Nicholas Bloom; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West County Paramedic Association 6852 Meadville Rd. Girard, PA 16417.
Friends may call on Tuesday September 3, 2024 from 3:00 pm to the time of service at 6:00 pm at the Edder Funeral Home Inc. 309 Main St. E. Girard. To send condolences, visit edderfuneralhome.com
