Edna Marie Cherry was called to her heavenly home on January 11, 2026. Born on August 28, 1940, in
Charlotte, North Carolina, to the late Grady and Mary Farmer.
A lifelong resident of Charlotte, Edna's nurturing spirit was cultivated from a young age, leading her to pursue a career in nursing. After graduating from Tech High School, she furthered her education at Central Piedmont Community College, where she received her Associate Degree in Nursing. With a desire to provide compassionate care, Edna began her nursing career at Carolinas Medical Center. Her commitment to her profession was evident when she advanced her skills and obtained her RN license in 1974.
Edna's caring heart found its calling in geriatric care, transitioning from the hospital to serve at the Charlotte Wesley Nursing Center. After six years, she continued her vocation at Hawthorne Nursing Center, where she dedicated herself until retirement. Her gentle touch and warm smile were a comfort to many during their twilight years.
A devout Christian, Edna's life was a reflection of her faith. Edna's zest for life extended beyond her professional and spiritual commitments. She found joy in the simple pleasures of thrifting, where she would uncover hidden treasures to share with those she loved. Her hands, always busy, worked the earth in her garden. Her artistic flair shone brightest in her ability to refurbish old furniture.
Edna's legacy is carried on by her adoring family, including her son Billy Cherry; daughters Linda Collins, Wanda (Russell) Walthall, and Lisa Damas; six grandsons; seven granddaughters; one great-grandson; and one great-granddaughter. Each of them bears the imprint of her love and the lessons of her kind and generous spirit.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of forty nine and a half years, Billy Cherry.
